Sustainable Change, Driven by People

Our story

The changemaker story derives from our passion for sustainable change. In the world of business, we have seen and experienced too many change delivery programmes fall short of their desired outcomes, resulting in burnt out, disillusioned people and disappointed stakeholders. We decided there must be a better way to realise sustainable change – one that places the human being at the forefront.

Whilst external factors like technology, markets and economic climate can trigger the need for change, it is the people who determine how quickly change happens, whether it is successful and whether it will last – people like you and me, like your colleagues and customers, like your family and friends.

This is why we have built a team to support others in achieving sustainable change, whether that be within their organisation or as part of their own personal journey.

Our story started when Dave, Paul and Justin first got together in 2016 (although their history and relationships went back over 20 years already). Since then we have grown our core team and brought together the ‘changemaker family’ – a network of over 150 known, trusted associates. This unique, flexible resourcing model allows us to rapidly scale to meet customer needs whilst still providing the skilled, experienced, values led support our reputation has been built on.

Core principles

At changemaker we have four core principles which underpin everything we do, both collectively and as individuals. They’re not just a poster on the wall or words on a webpage; they’re the behaviours we follow every day. They define the experience we want our customers and colleagues to have when working with us.

Humanity

We deeply value the human being, and we believe people are the most important aspect of our work and life. When working with us, you’ll experience a team that views you as a person on an individual basis, rather than simply just a contract. Even when delivering the most technical of projects, we recognise the importance and complexity of the human beings involved and ensure we bring this focus to our work.

Integrity

We’ll never compromise our principles for a quick fix. When you work with us, you’ll be talking to someone who’ll always tell you what we believe you need to hear, rather than simply what you might want to hear. However, we’ll do this in a way that respects your situation, and we’ll offer solutions to your problems.

Relationship

Our business is built on enduring relationships. Many of our employees, associates and customers have worked with us for decades across multiple organisations. We have shared values and approaches based on mutuality and common purpose. This isn’t a business strategy, it’s just who we are – and our customers value it enormously.

Respect

We recognise we’re not all the same and that’s okay; in fact, it’s great. We treat everyone with respect, and we value diversity. Because we value difference, we accept our approach will suit some and not others, and that’s also okay. Understanding our client’s culture and style is a key part of our success and we’ll check we’re a good fit for you. If we realise we’re not, we are brave enough to have that conversation and point you in a different direction.

Our team

With decades of hands-on experience, our team brings empathy, insight and practical know-how to support meaningful, sustainable change where it matters most.

Dave Seddon

Director and Leader of our Talent Development practice

Dave has a passion for people and has spent many years supporting organisations in finding and developing the talent they need to realise their ambition.

His exceptional success is built on a belief that cultural fit is as important as technical skills and experiences, and this focus on aligning the human side of an employer and an employee relationship brings a real difference to the approach changemaker takes to talent recruitment and development. Dave’s passion for helping people achieve their goals also extends to individuals and he can regularly be found working as an executive coach and providing individual career advice. Dave is an original founder of changemaker, having previously built a successful recruitment organisation following a corporate career as a leader of IT delivery and operations organisation.

A great lover of the outdoors, Dave enjoys gardening and is a typical spirit of “Tom” in The Good Life, humming his little tunes, growing vegetables, keeping chickens, and doing his garden design. He is also keen on keeping fit and playing golf, where his enthusiasm is far greater than his ability! He loves travel when time permits and he also commits himself to supporting a combination of charitable organisations such as Foodshare, Careers Springboard and building projects in 3rd world countries.

Justin Bull

Director and Leader of our Structural Change practice

Justin has an unlimited enthusiasm and energy for realising sustainable change, especially in the digital space.

His background in automotive engineering and manufacturing, followed by a series of transformation leadership roles in major mobile telcos has given him a unique understanding of how to deliver structured change in fast moving, customer centric environments. His appreciation to the value of formal approaches to programme and project management is combined with a real understanding of the need for customer engagement and the ability to adapt to fast-paced change in our digital world. His recent work includes overseeing the launch of digital direct to customer sales channels across multiple European markets for a global retailer. Justin is a founder of changemaker and leads our thinking on enabling customer centric and digital change.

Outside of his role at changemaker, Justin spends most of his spare time outdoors partaking in running, cycling, military fitness training, skiing, and golf. Music has also always been a big part of Justin’s life, where he enjoys playing instruments and attending as many concerts as he can. While travelling for work can be something of a necessity for Justin, he also enjoys travelling for pleasure and exploring all the diverse landscapes, seascapes, cultures, and cuisines that the world has to offer.

Paul has extensive experience in designing and leading transformational change across a range of sectors both as a member of corporate teams and as a consultant and facilitator.

He has frequently worked with organisations that desire or are experiencing significant market growth and has successfully launched and built several organisations. Paul is an original founder of changemaker and uses his passion for supporting the human being through change to lead and develop our human change practice, supporting organisations in leadership development, transformational change and cultural shift.

Outside of his role at changemaker, Paul loves building and fixing things, especially when it involves learning new skills. He has now swapped house renovation for a new hobby – motor boating, which also involve hours of maintenance and cleaning!

Jason Craker

Transformation Director and Leader of our Automotive practice

Jason has extensive experience as a hands-on, global CIO operating in fast moving, customer focussed environments.

Jason has a long association with the Automotive industry and is interested in how the traditional industry is transforming into an emerging mobility sector, addressing the shift to sustainable transport with digitally enabled customer services at its core. His extensive network, experience, energy, and passion for identifying new customer engagement models in this sector drives his work with multiple clients from digital start-ups to traditional OEM’s. Jason leads our Automotive practice having previously been responsible for establishing the global digital eco-system for Polestar as their Chief Digital Information Officer.

Despite trying hard to squash his competitiveness, Jason still enjoys playing any sport his body allows, and he loves nothing more than trying to beat Dave’s best lap time or winning a round of golf. His spare time mainly consists of spending time with family, a little bit of walking, and spending as much time as possible finding, building and restoring old Lego Technic kits – he finds it a stress release! Alongside this, Jason also gives back to a local charity – Careers Spring Board – helping those looking to find new roles and change direction in their careers.

Jonny Baber

Director and Leader of our Change Delivery practice

Jonny joined our team to own and evolve our ever-growing Change Delivery service line as we continue to commit to delivering sustainable change for our clients.

His experience at the sharp end of change delivery has given him a pragmatic and adaptable approach to making delivery and governance work hand in hand, where so often they can conflict. His focus on “right sizing” an organisations Delivery Governance needs, enables a more mature change delivery approach that captures the bigger picture rather than delivery silos, and enables organisations to become more effective at turning strategy into tangible business outcomes.

Outside of his role at changemaker, Jonny is a keen Musician (or rather half decent on Piano and knows a few chords on the guitar), enthusiastic but talentless sportsman (Skiing, Cycling, Golf), and has a general love for the great outdoors – especially anywhere in the mountains. His delivery management expertise is also currently being employed by overseeing a major refurbishment of the family home.
