We are pleased to share that Paul Major, co-founder of changemaker, will be speaking at EVA33 – Putting the EV into AchiEVement, taking place 28–29 April 2026 at Armourers Hall, London.
changemaker is also proud to be supporting EVA33 as a Silver Sponsor, reinforcing our commitment to strengthening the connection between programme delivery, project controls, and the human side of transformation.
Paul will be speaking on “Leading people through change”, exploring the human side of transformation and why successful programmes rely on more than just plans, controls, and metrics.
Paul Major’s session
Paul’s session, “Leading people through change”, focuses on the practical realities of helping teams and organisations adapt during large transformation programmes. Leading change is now a core requirement for most senior leaders. But what actually makes a great change leader?
Traditional leadership experience, technical expertise and corporate career paths do not always equip leaders to guide organisations through complex transformation. Successful change depends on engaging the people affected by it, yet many change initiatives still struggle because leaders have not been equipped to lead change effectively.
Drawing on research into the leadership approaches that drive engagement during transformation, this session explores:
- What makes change leadership different from traditional leadership roles
- The leadership behaviours that drive engagement and momentum
- How strong functional leaders can become effective change leaders
What is EVA33?
EVA33 is a specialist conference focused on Integrated Project Controls, particularly the evolving discipline around Earned Value Management (EVM) and modern programme delivery frameworks.
The event coincides with the release of the 2026 edition of ISO / BS 21508, which expands traditional EVM thinking to incorporate a broader set of disciplines needed for complex programmes and organisational transformation.
These include:
- Risk management and governance
- Agile programme delivery
- Critical chain and critical path planning
- Resource management and technical performance
- PMO capability and programme oversight
In simple terms, EVA33 explores how organisations move from strategic intent to measurable delivery outcomes in complex programmes.
The conference brings together programme directors, PMO leaders, project controls specialists, engineers, and transformation leaders working across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, engineering, and government.
Speakers include experts and practitioners from organisations such as Rolls-Royce, Sizewell C, Cranfield School of Management, UCL, and AECOM, alongside specialists working at the front line of major programme delivery.
Where project controls and change leadership meet
Events like EVA33 traditionally focus on the technical architecture of programme delivery, controls, planning, estimating, scheduling, and performance reporting. These disciplines are essential for large transformation programmes and complex project management environments.
But programmes rarely fail because the schedule was drawn incorrectly. They fail because organisations struggle to move with the change. This is where the connection between project controls and change management becomes critical.
You might think of it like this:
Project controls are the instrumentation panel.
Change leadership is the engine and driver.
Project controls tell you what is happening inside the programme. Change leadership determines whether the organisation can actually move forward. Another way to look at it, particularly in engineering and automotive environments:
- Project controls provide the blueprint, telemetry, and performance data.
- Change leadership ensures the teams understand the mission, adapt to uncertainty, and maintain momentum.
Without project controls, programmes drift. Without effective change management and leadership capability, even the most sophisticated programme plan will stall the moment it meets real organisational behaviour. Successful transformation programmes require both disciplines working together.
Two days of programme delivery insight
The EVA33 programme covers a wide range of topics across two days, including:
- Managing complex and messy projects
- Portfolio mismanagement in large organisations
- Risk ecosystems and programme decision making
- AI and automation in project controls and PMO environments
- Lessons from the Sizewell C programme control setup
- Evolving the traditional “Iron Triangle” for modern transformation programmes
Alongside the formal sessions, the event includes networking discussions, informal conversations, and evening social events where practitioners share real-world experience from complex programme delivery environments.
