A regular place to stay connected, strengthen your network, share what you know and spend time with good people.
First Friday of every month | Online | Around one hour
The changemaker Community brings together changemaker associates, friends of changemaker and people working across change, transformation and delivery – plus good people from adjacent disciplines who add something different to the conversation.
The idea is simple: protect one hour each month for people, relationships and connection.
Come every month. Come occasionally. Drop in when it is useful. Join the conversation, share something, ask a question, meet someone new or simply listen.
Why are we doing it?
We want somewhere that exists consistently - a place people can come back to when they need it.
- To stay connected when projects, roles and organisations change.
- To build stronger professional relationships over time.
- To expand your network beyond the people you already know.
- To hear different perspectives and understand what others are seeing in the market.
- To share ideas, knowledge, introductions and opportunities.
- To give people somewhere to turn when they are between roles or looking for what comes next.
- To make sure changemaker keeps community and relationships on the agenda too.
If connection is not in the diary, it is very easy for it to slip.
So we are putting it in the diary.
Every month.
Is it networking?
Yes. But it is not just networking.
For us, networking is getting to know people, building trust, learning from others, hearing what is happening outside your organisation, making introductions and being remembered when the right opportunity appears.
WE’D LIKE THIS TO BE A PRETTY GOOD OPTION.
Who is it for?
The community is deliberately broad. You might be:
- A current or former changemaker associate or friend of changemaker.
- An independent contractor, consultant or fractional leader.
- Permanently employed but looking for perspective outside your organisation.
- Between assignments or actively looking for what comes next.
- Working across change, transformation, projects or programme delivery.
- Working in a connected discipline such as technology, HR, finance, operations, data, communications, testing, architecture or analysis.
- Or simply someone we know, trust or have been recommended who would add something useful to the room.
What might we talk about?
Anything useful to the people in the room. There will usually be a loose theme, but we do not want to over-engineer it.
- The market, hiring, contracting and consulting.
- Careers, CVs, LinkedIn and interviews.
- Recruitment - the good, the bad and the frustrating.
- AI and technology in practice.
- Change, transformation, projects and programme delivery.
- Leadership, communication, behaviour and team dynamics.
- Business development, bids, opportunities and useful introductions.
- Or simply what has happened in somebody's week.
It should not all come from changemaker
Keep it human
We want this to be useful without becoming super-corporate. changemaker is a relaxed, down-to-earth business, and the community should feel the same: honest conversation, a bit of humour, the occasional silly meme and space to be yourself.
Warm, credible and professional does not have to mean stiff.
Relationships and opportunity
Relationships do not maintain themselves. They need time, contact and investment from both sides.
We invest in people who invest in us. We look after people who look after us. That does not make every relationship commercial; it makes the relationship real and reciprocal.
There is a commercial opportunity - for everyone
The world of work is changing. How organisations hire is changing. How opportunities are shared is changing. Reputation, referrals and trusted networks matter more than ever.
A strong network can create options when you need them most: when an assignment ends, when you are looking for your next move, when a client needs somebody you trust or when your own name and reputation are on the line for delivery.
Opportunities may emerge through assignments, introductions, referrals, partnerships, clients, collaborators or simply knowing the right person at the right time. Nothing is guaranteed – but building relationships before you need them is usually far more valuable than trying to build a network on the day you suddenly do.
TODAY’S CONVERSATION MIGHT BECOME TOMORROW’S OPPORTUNITY.
A few simple ground rules
- Be respectful and kind.
- Listen as well as talk.
- Keep genuinely confidential conversations confidential.
- Do not hard sell.
- Challenge ideas, not individuals.
- Help where you can.
- Give as well as take.
- And if you need a five-minute moan at the end of the week, that is probably fine too - just keep some perspective.
Between Fridays
Members will also have access to a private LinkedIn group for upcoming sessions, topic suggestions, useful content, questions, opportunities, introductions and staying connected with people they meet through the community.
What are we trying to build?
Something consistent. Something useful. Something people know is there when they need it.
THE GOAL ISN’T TO HAVE THE LARGEST NETWORK.
IT’S TO HAVE A CONNECTED STRONG ONE.
Success might be somebody finding their next opportunity, making a useful introduction, hearing a different perspective, getting help during a difficult job search, finding a trusted person for a project or simply finishing Friday feeling a little more connected.
And there is a measure for us too: did we keep showing up? Because community and relationships only work if somebody keeps opening the door.
Interested?
The changemaker Community is invitation-led, but we are always interested in meeting good people.
If you work in or around change, transformation, delivery or one of the many disciplines that support them – or you are already connected to changemaker as an associate or friend – simply send us an email.
